It looks we are going to have an exciting year. Your child has probably told you about how different reading is this year. We have incorporated a 90 minute reading block during the day where students will be reading on their reading level. Please encourage your child to read at home and ask them to tell you what they have read. It makes great dinner conversation.
Parents, please listen to the weather each morning. If the temperature or wind chill is 25 or lower, students will be inside, but if the temperature or wind chill is above 25 degrees, students will be outdoors before school and at recess. Mittens, hats, and scarves are very appropriate winter dress.
Our goal this year is to collect data on students so that we can create lesson plans that meet their needs. MAP testing is given to students in second through fifth grade. MAP testing addresses language arts and math. AIMSWEB testing is given to all students. It addresses reading.
Winter break is fast approaching. The week of December 8th is Santa’s Secret Shop. Students have an opportunity to purchase gifts for their family members during the school day. The students will bring the gifts home wrapped and ready to surprise someone on Christmas morning. Students will be able to shop on Tuesday, December 9th and Wednesday, December 10th.
Cookies with Santa will take place on December 18th. For a small fee, children will be able to create ornaments and, of course, get their picture taken with the jolly man, Santa Claus.
This year, we were asked by Health World to help out with some filming of programs dealing with health and nutrition. Several students were invited to come in for a day of filming which took place in Brookfield. The students learned how programs are made and that it takes a lot of rehearsals to get things perfect. We are very fortunate to work with them because they give us free use of their online programs.
